Integrated Planning

We support cities in holistically addressing the complexities of planning, developing, and governing infrastructures to sustainably accommodate their growing populations.

Integrated planning is a powerful tool for cities to plan and develop infrastructure, ensuring an environmentally sensitive and just urban development.

Through the UrbanShift programme, UNEP supports 23 cities across nine countries, bringing together local leaders, national governments and a range of global stakeholders to enable urban development that is both nature-positive and human-centric. Through the "Green and Thriving Neighbourhoods" online course and the Integrated Guidelines for Sustainable Neighbourd Design it helps cities adopt integrated approaches to urban development, building an equitable, zero-carbon future where both the people and the planet can thrive.
