The Ecosystem Conservation Group (ECG)

The ECG was established in 1974 for the purpose of promoting thematic joint programming and to advise its member organizations on the development and implementation of relevant ecosystems and genetic resources conservation activities. The work of ECG aims to contribute towards promoting interlinkages and complementarity, and encouraging the compatibility of different approaches to common problems to the extent possible, and hence enhancing synergy and harmony among and between work programmes of the Group's members with those of the global environmental conventions. Furthermore, it strives not only to underpin the ethic of nature conservation, but also to promote the concept of sustainable use of the Earth's biosphere, its ecosystems and their biotic resources.
