Bureau Meeting of the Nairobi Convention and the High Level Meeting of Development Partners for the Mangroves for the Future Initiative in the WIO Region (MFF-WIO)

Following the invitation by the Government of Kenya the First Bureau Meeting for the Nairobi Convention will be held from 1 to 2 August 2013 in Nairobi, Kenya.
The First Bureau Meeting is organised by the UNEP as the Secretariat for the Nairobi Convention in close collaboration with the Chair, the Government of Tanzania and the host, the Government of Kenya. The Bureau meeting will be followed by a High Level Development Partners Meeting on the Mangrove for the Future Initiative for the Western Indian Ocean region, on 2 August, 2013 organised by the UNEP as the Secretariat for the Nairobi Convention in close collaboration with International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the Chair of the Convention and the host Government of Kenya.
The Bureau Meeting will discuss and agree on how to implement the decisions of the Seventh Conference Parties to the Nairobi Convention (COP7) specifically: a) the Work Programme 2013-2017; b) The GEF application for the project Implementing the Strategic Action Programme for the Protection of the Marine and Coastal Environment of the Western Indian ocean from Land Based Sources and Activities (WIO-SAP); and c) the Mangroves for the Future Initiative for the Western Indian ocean (MFF-WIO), a partnership programme by the Nairobi Convention Secretariat, IUCN, WIOMSA and CORDIO.
The High Level Meeting will discuss the proposed MFF-WIO partnership programme whose objective is to provide support to governments in the region in strengthening the resilience of coastal socio-ecological systems to environmental stress and shocks. The High Level Meeting is being organized to engage development partners, raise awareness on the programme, and to secure support for the initiative in line with decision CP7/13 of the Seventh Conference of Parties in which member states agreed to engage in dialogue.
