TreeCycle Initiative
Shrenik Rao is the Founder and Creative Director of Dolsun Media. He has worked across cultures and continents as an academic, broadcaster and a filmmaker.
His film titled Denied-This Bit of Truth, a documentary about the political and economic situation in Zimbabwe has been featured on BBC and was premiered at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government in the US and also at the London School of Economics, UK.
In his career as a documentary film maker, he has questioned several heads of states ranging from the Vice-Presidents of Zimbabwe - Ms.Joyce Mujuru and Mr.Joseph Msika to the Twenty First Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mir Zaffarullah Khan Jamali.
He created the environmental initiative, titled TreeCycle, for which he cycled along the length of India for 4,100 Kms and raised a pledge of three million trees in support of the United Nations Environment Programme’s Billion Tree Campaign.
His primary academic interest is in Information Studies and its application to Global Politics, Development and the Environment. He specialized in Political Communication, New Media, Information and Knowledge Systems from the London School of Economics, UK and also in Anthropology from the University Of Hyderabad, India, for which he was awarded the University Gold medal and University Merit scholarship for academic excellence.
As an academic he taught 'Information and Politics', 'International Media Development', Information Communication and Society', 'Information Technology' and 'Communication Skills' to masters level students at Napier University, Edinburgh, UK. He has addressed employees at Microsoft, students at Indian School of Business (ISB), Hyderabad, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, University of Westminster, London, UK and also at the University of Hyderabad, India, among others.
Academically he specializes in Political Communication and Information Studies from the London School of Economics, UK and also in Political Anthropology from the University Of Hyderabad, India, for which he was awarded the University Gold medal and University Merit scholarship for academic excellence.
Prior to founding Dolsun Media, Shrenik was the Vice-President (Programming) of a regional television network in India.
He had cycled along the length of the country, from Kanyakumari to Kashmir, for 4100 km in support of United Nations, environment programme, Billion Tree Campaign and raised a pledge of 3 million trees.
