How our program works sent by Trees for the Future
05/09/2007
Dear Friends,
Trees for the Future has helped communities to plant over 60 million trees worldwide since 1988 and over 9 million in 2007 alone. We support agroforestry and reforestation efforts in thousands of communities across the world. We provide seeds, technical consultation, distance training, and support to communities and NGOs interested in reforesting and rehabilitating degraded lands.
Across the planet, forests are disappearing at the frightening rate of an acre per second. Without trees to hold the soil and water, farmlands become dry and barren, springs no longer provide drinking water, and mudslides bury entire villages. Additionally, tropical forests help moderate worldwide weather patterns. Partly due to deforestation, weather patterns are becoming increasingly erratic and destructive.
Much of this deforestation is due to outdated agricultural and land management practices, and therefore much of our work is focused on this sector. We help develop agroforestry-based land management systems that provide for the needs of local peoples, thereby helping to ease pressures on the existing natural resources. We also work on reforestation and watershed management projects that protect and rehabilitate lands.
There is a saying in West Africa: “when the last tree dies, the last man dies also.” People know that their hope lies in planting new trees that will, in time, become forests. Communities come to us and propose tree-planting projects. By helping to choose species tailored to each community’s needs, we create agroforestry systems that rebuild worn soils, reduce erosion, replenish groundwater aquifers and create microclimate conditions that encourage the return of indigenous species. These agroforestry systems also provide income-generating opportunities for the communities and can even create employment. With the help of our members, we are at work directly in these communities, sharing with the people the hope that we can restore the land to a sustainable, productive, and healthy environment.

Hi guys, we wish to thank you for the superb work you are doing in environmental conservation. This is the only way to ensure that; we are addressing the challenges we face and enhancing true stewardship towards nature. Well; Green Warriors Movement purposes to partner and network with UNEP in achieving environmental sustainability. We look forward to your positive response.
