National Arbor Day Western Landscape Services

In 2008/09 surrounding the celebration of National Arbor Day Western Landscape Services, in partnership with the City of Kingston, delivered a successful and dynamic program to Grade 6 children in the Kingston area.
The program was well received by students, teachers, and volunteer’s educating all participants on the benefits of trees in an urban environment.  Our Certified Arborist and staff planted 8 native mature trees with Grade 6 students at participating Kingston Elementary schools.

As well, 350 White Spruce potted seedlings, provided by the Cataraqui Region Conservation Authority, were given to the students to plant at a location of their choosing.
The children were taught why ‘trees are good’, how to plant a tree, and how to nurture their tree once planted. Children were provided with resources and had hands on experience planting a tree in their school yard. The following schools participated:

  • Central Public School
  • Rideau Public School
  • Centennial Public School
  • J.G. Simcoe Public School
  • First Avenue Public School
  • Kingston Christian School
  • Lancaster Drive Public School
  • Bayridge Public School
In 2010 our goal is to plant 10 trees at 10 schools and distribute approximately 600 seedlings, as well as providing quality educational resources to distribute to the teachers and children.  Grade 6 children are at an impressionable age and often times their enthusiasm is contagious spilling over to friends and family members.

We are proud to be participants of the United Nations world wide ‘Billion Tree Campaign’.  We look forward to planting more trees in this corner of the world for many more years to come.
