Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, 13th session, 2014- Side event: Pastoralism and the Post 2015 agenda

This side event was held on 21 May 2014 by UNEP with following partners: International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), World Alliance of Mobile Indigenous Peoples (WAMIP), International Land Coalition (ILC), International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and Tebtebba Pastoralism and the Post 2015 agenda.The side event examined facts, myths and emerging issues impacting pastoralists worldwide. A panel of speakers representing indigenous pastoralists, governments and UN bodies explored sustainable pastoralism solutions that could help define appropriate targets or indicators for the sustainable development goals.

Regional Workshop on the Implementation of  Rio Principle 10 in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA)

The Regional Workshop on the Implementation of Rio Principle 10 Regional and the Guidelines for the Development of National Legislation on Access to Information, Public Participation and Access to Justice in Environmental Matters was convened in Amman, Jordan on 12-13 May 2014.

The Workshop comprised of five working sessions addressing (i) the Eye on Earth, Principle 10 and the Access for All Special Initiative; (ii) Principle 10 of the Rio Declaration from 1992 and it application worldwide; (iii) the three pillars of the Bali Guidelines and the manual being developed for its implementation (with participants provided with an Arabic translation of the draft manual which was translated as part of the project); (iv) a discussion session around advancing capacity development and exploring opportunities for national action and capacity development to effectively implement Principle 10 at the national level, alongside regional synergies; and (v) the final session which reviewed the key outcomes and identified follow-up action. There were 31 participants to the meeting, representing 8 national governments 15 national and regional organisations, from 12 countries of the region.

On December 13, 2012 the Norwegian NGO “Forum for Environment and Development” organized with financial support from the Government of Norway the meeting

"Strengthening civil society engagement in UN processes on environment and sustainable development". The meeting's objective was to develop inputs of Norwegian Civil Society for the Government of Norway related to new mechanisms for stakeholder involvement and transparency in UN processes, including in UNEP, taking also into account Paragraph 88h of the Rio + 20 outcome document.
