Thursday September 22: reaching out to YouTube film-makers and animators from the four corners of the globe, tve today launches its ambitious new tvebiomovies 2011 film competition. Now in its second year, tvebiomovies offers the cream of the YouTube generation the chance to have their say on the most pressing environmental issues facing our planet today.
Visionary YouTubers worldwide are invited to submit proposals for short films on the global environment. A judging panel will select 10 of the ideas to go into production, with YouTuber finalists each receiving US$300 to make their one-minute film. In addition to competing for viewers on YouTube itself, tve is delighted to announce that the 10 tvebiomovies 2011 films will also be screened to key movers and shakers attending the Climate Change debate at COP17, the international climate change conference being held in Durban, South Africa, in December 2011.
“We were thrilled with the creativity of last year’s entries,” says Cheryl Campbell, tve executive director, “and the 2010 finalist films continue to attract viewers to our YouTube channel today. This year’s competition promises to be even bigger and better. We’re delighted to have the support of YouTube this year to make sure we reach an even wider audience and - thanks to all our donors – we have five exciting and diverse categories for entries.“
“As well as reaching YouTube’s global audience, last year’s shortlisted films were screened at Nagoya at COP10. The 2011 films will be showcased at Durban, as well as going on line for viewers to decide on the ultimate winners.”
Entries for tvebiomovies2011 will fall into five categories – water, energy, forests, oceans, and people living in harmony with their environment. The deadline for applications is 21 October 2011.
