Beatriz Gomez Castro works as Associate Programme Officer on Access and Benefit-sharing within the UN Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity. She has been involved in the negotiations of the Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and the Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising from their Utilization, and she currently works in the intergovernmental process set up in preparation for the entry into force of the Protocol.
Prior to joining the Secretariat, Beatriz worked as a consultant in marine environmental law and fisheries issues. Most of her experience focused on cooperation for development in Western Africa, including projects for the Spanish Cooperation Development Agency and the African Development Bank.
Beatriz holds an LLM on Environmental and Energy Law from the Katholieke Universiteit of Leuven, Belgium.
