UNEP GC PresidentHE. Rosa Aguilar, President of the Governing Council of UNEP since last February, is currently Minister of Environment, Rural and Marine Affairs since October 2010. She was born in Córdoba, in Andalusia in the South of Spain. She is a lawyer by training and a left-wing woman committed throughout her long political career to fight for gender equality. She has been appointed for top management positions at all levels of the Spanish Administration, including local, regional and national level. In 1993 and 1996 she was elected Member of the Parliament where she worked as spokeswoman of her parliamentary group in both legislatures. She was the first woman in performing that role. In 1999 she was elected mayor of Córdoba, position that she occupied for 10 years, until April 2009 when she became a member of the Autonomous Government of Andalusia until her appointment in 2010 as Minister
