RVE. Sol

RVE.SOL is a social-entrepreneurship targeting community level renewable energy and potable water services at a market characterised by a demographic that has a strong desire to purchase alternative energy and water services. Ours is an innovative, holistic approach to fighting rural poverty, crafted by a team with a proven business track record, setting out to build a sustainable, profitable social business that makes measurable social-economic impact and changes rural life forever.

The problem: Lack of access to safe energy and water perpetuates rural poverty. Millions of people globally die due to lack of access to alternatives. This causes a perpetual cycle of early death in rural communities.

The Solution: "KUDURA" is a Swahili word, loosely meaning "the power to change". It is also the name we chose for our rural energy and water solution. To reliably provide these services, KUDURA relies on world leading technology in the form of a number of discrete but integrated sub-systems: a Solar Photovoltaic plant, a Biogas and organic fertiliser plant, a Water Purification plant and a Central Monitoring system for remote oversight. The system i s a scaleable, self contained, integrated and completely stand-alone rural energy solution. Typical installations require less than 24 hours until “switch-on”. As inputs, raw water, solar energy and animal manure are converted to potable water, electricity, biogas and organic fertiliser. These are distributed from installation site within the community to meet consumer demand on a "pre-pay-for-service" basis.

Solar Nexus International

Solar Nexus International is a U.S.-based manufacturer and distributor of pre-integrated, off-grid solar electric systems for communities, institutions, businesses and NGOs in the rural developing world. Standardized designs and system pre-integration in the United States ensures that our products are easy to install and maintain in remote, off-grid settings. Solar Nexus International’s latest project in East Africa helped UK-based NGO SolarAid install more than one hundred 400-Watt Solar Nexus Systems for rural public schools in Tanzania and Kenya.

Wonderbag is a heat retention/insulation cooker in which people can cook anything from stews or curries to rice and soups. Wonderbag's clever insulating properties allow food that has been brought to the boil to finish cooking while in the bag without the use of additional energy.

The Wonderbag will be one of South Africa's first Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) projects being registered by the UNFCCC. It is a simple solution that is focused on developing countries with high poverty and a shortage of fuel supplies.

150,000 Wonderbags are already being used in homes across South Africa. Our mission is to place 100 million Wonderbags in African homes by 2016, which would save 50 million carbon tonnes every year.
