H.E. Ms. Lisel Alamilla
Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and Sustainable Development, Belize
Minister Lisel Alamilla, born in Belize City and raised in Belize City and Benque Viejo del Carmen, is a graduate of the University of Idaho, College of Natural Resources. She has eighteen years experience working in development and conservation initiatives in Belize. Prior to her appointment, she was the Executive Director of Ya'axche Conservation Trust (2008 - 2012), a leading NGO working in southern Belize to address the country’s immense conservation challenges, which include unsustainable hunting and habitat destruction for agricultural expansion and the timber trade.
Minister Alamilla is the recipient of three prestigious awards - Marsh Award for Conservation Leadership, Whitley Fund for Nature Award and the University of Idaho International Alumnae Award. The foundation of her work is based on a personal commitment to social justice, which she believes can only be achieved by balancing the interest of people and their environment.
