The Third University of Joensuu UNEP Course on International Environmental Law Making and Diplomacy was held at the Faculty of Law of the University of Kwazulu Natal in Pietermarisburg, South Africa from 26th June to 7th July 2006.  Thirty five participants from both developing and developed countries attended this law making programme. 

This time the theme was biological diversity having covered the themes of water and forestry respectively in previous training programmes which took place in 2004 and 2005 at the University of Joensuu in Finland. The evaluation undertaken in the course of the training programme indicated that the training was successful in developing skills in negotiations, simulation exercises were singled out as the best media to communicate this course.  The fourth training programme which is scheduled for mid next year at the University of Joensuu, will focus on the theme of Chemicals.
