The goal of UNEP’s Energy Branch is to bring a longer term, environmental dimension into energy sector decisions. UNEP’s activities help decision makers to improve their understanding of the link between the energy choices they face and broader sustainable development issues.
UNEP Risoe Centre on Energy, Climate and Sustainable Development (URC)
URC is a collaborating centre of UNEP specializing in energy and environmental issues. The Centre supports UNEP in pursuing its aim of incorporating environmental aspects into energy planning and policy worldwide, with special emphasis on developing countries.
Sustainable Energy Finance Initiative (SEFI)
UNEP’s Sustainable Energy Finance Initiative (SEFI) is a platform providing financiers with the tools, support, and global network needed to conceive and manage investments in the complex and rapidly changing marketplace for clean energy technologies.
Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM)
SAICM was developed by a multi-stakeholder and multi-sectoral Preparatory Committee and supports the achievement of the goal agreed at the 2002 Johannesburg World Summit on Sustainable Development of ensuring that, by the year 2020, chemicals are produced and used in ways that minimize significant adverse impacts on the environment and human health.
UNEP Offshore Oil and Gas Environment Forum
UNEP Offshore Oil and Gas Environment Forum is a multi-stakeholder initiative aiming to create a medium to locate and disseminate environmental information concerning the sustainable development of the offshore oil and gas industry.
Basel Agency for Sustainable Energy (BASE)
BASE works to promote increased finance sector engagement in sustainable energy in both developing and industrialized countries. BASE is a non-profit foundation and UNEP Collaborating Centre. It is a partner in the UNEP/BASE Sustainable Energy Finance Initiative (SEFI).
OzonAction Branch
The UNEP DTIE OzonAction Branch assists developing countries and countries with economies in transition (CEITs) to enable them to achieve and sustain compliance with the Montreal Protocol. With this assistance, countries are able to make informed decisions about alternative technologies and ozone-friendly policies.
