The International Climate Initiative (ICI)

The German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) developed the International Climate Initiative (ICI) in 2008.

It is an innovative, internationally groundbreaking mechanism for financing climate protection projects that is funded from the sale of tradable emission certificates. BMU uses this funding to support climate protection projects in developing, newly industrialising and transition countries.
