Murwillumbah
Each year since 2000, the Murwillumbah Community Centre, Tweed Shire Council and the Caldera Environment Centre have worked together to run the shires World Environment Day Celebrations. The aim of this grass roots, community orientated festival is to celebrate the rich ecological diversity in the Tweed and to focus on the responsibility we all share in protecting it for future generations. To give the international theme of ‘Deserts and Desertification’ a local perspective, our theme for this year is ‘total catchment management’. A three dimensional, solar powered, working model of a catchment will be showcased at this year’s event, providing a visual demonstration of how our everyday activities impact on the natural environment. The catchment management model gives children and adults alike a greater appreciation of how our day-to-day activities influence the long-term health of the ecosystem. The event will be held at Knox Park in the heart of Murwillumbah 10am - 4pm on Sunday the 4 June 2006 Showcasing local talent and speakers, market stalls and information stalls.

Wollongong
The celebration, planned for this year's World Environment Day in Wollongong, will be based along the lines of previous years with environmental workshops being offered at the Botanic Gardens for school students from years 5 and 6. Organisation of Wollongong's "Enviro 2006" has been co-ordinated in consultation with the Department of School Education.
There will be 26 workshops and an environmental drama (endorsed by the Education Department) all are aimed at providing a range of educational experiences which can be linked with the current environmental education curriculum.
There will be five, half hour workshop sessions provided by various government and private organisations including two high schools, with approximately 30 students per workshop being accommodated. Each class will choose four workshops with every student viewing the Environmental Drama, which will cater for approximately 250 students at a time. This will allow more schools to attend “Enviro 2006”.
The students will be actively involved during the day through a "hands on experience". The workshops will assist the students in identifying a problem and then determining the solution, which is relative to their lives.
At the completion of the day's activities, the students will have had the opportunity to consider either, Bio-diversity, change, conservation, ecosystems, energy, heritage, pollution, recycling and both the advantages and disadvantages of possible environmental problems …Please click here for more
