The "Encounter" was the name of the special presentation, to celebrate the World Environment Day held in Mexico City, it was standing for the convergence of different artistic expressions as well as for the connection of the human kind with deserts. The National Company of Folkloric Dance along with the Company Eros Ludens (contemporary ballet), offered a great show where the writings of the Mexican poet Carlos Gomez (Sustainable World Foundation) led a story about different concepts around deserts and desertification. A pinch of reality was present with the projection of two videos with images of the state of deserts and dry lands around the world, specifically in Mexico. The presentation was held in the Greek Cultural Centre of the National Council for Arts and Culture of Mexico City (CONACULTA) on 10 June, 2006. There were more than 500 people from Non-Governmental Organizations, officials from CONACULTA, United Nations System staff members, and representatives of the arts in Mexico. This was the first of a series of presentations that will travel around Mexico (northern and southern regions) and other countries in Latin America and the Caribbean throughout this year. This presentation will presented by ROLAC/UNEP on 25 June in Villahermosa, Tabasco, Mexico.
