Fr. Darrell Rupiper, OMI will be in residence at St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Incline Village from 27 May - 4 June to preach at weekend masses, to conduct two workshops, and to lead a spiritual ritual in preparation for World Environment Day. The first workshop on Wednesday, 31May, 7-8:30 p.m. will focus on "The Earth as Sacrament: Finding God in Things Created." The topic of second workshop to be held on Thursday, 1 June, 7-8:30 p.m. will be "Finding Our True Place in the Earth Community." On Saturday, 3 June, Fr. Darrell will lead a spiritual ritual celebrating "Our Sacred Creation Story" from 3-4:30 p.m. A Eucharistic Mass will follow at 5 p.m. In an effort to collaborate with religions around the world, St Francis of Assisi Parish is using the period from May 27 to June 4 to learn what Catholics can draw about Earth from their depository of faith and put their faith into action. Catholics and friends throughout the Diocese of Reno are welcome to attend. The event starts and finishes in Old Sacramento and travels along the two major rivers. Last year, $12,000 was raised and awarded to eleven local sustainable living projects.

To celebrate World Environment Day, the Global Environmental Teachings Program (GET) organized an international photo contest for students around the world with the theme, 'Greening Our School: Students Making a Difference.' This event will help students build a better understanding for different cultures and how humans throughout the world affect and are affected by the environment. It will enable students to connect internationally and ultimately enhance their understanding of what environmental projects other students are doing at their schools. Winning photos will be reproduced on a poster and distributed to participating schools by 5 June.

To mark World Environment Day, Arts for Global Development / Art4Development.Net is organizing the eco'arts project that is intended to tackle vital development issues with creativity; inform and inspire individuals to take preventive actions; and acknowledge those creative individuals who focus on habitat and environmental challenges. The event is to take place on 8 June at the International Visions Arts gallery. The guest speaker will be David Waskow who is the international program director of the non-profit organization, Friends of the Earth. The Arts for Global Development, Inc founder and president Nil Sismanyazici Navaie will present the eco'arts project. In addition, the creator of postcards from Katrina project, Tambra Steventson will introduce her project as a way to bring awareness that the people in the gulf regions still need help and hope.
The eco'arts Mural will be suspended from the ceiling, displaying images of artworks / projects / performances created by those artists and advocates who shared their work with Art4Develpment.Net. The mural measures 24 x 48 inches and has two sides. Eco'arts, which is a collage of works placed on wood, decorated with acrylic paint, mirrors, ornaments, and silk leaves, depicts the connection of humanity and environment, and calls for protective action!
