On the occasion of World Environment Day, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Jordan in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment will launch Jordan's national strategy and action plan for combating desertification in Jordan in an official event on 5 June. The event will include statements by UNDP resident representative and the minister of environment. There will be a presentation on the strategy.

KUWAIT

To commemorate World Environment Day, the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE), Kuwait chapter has organized a number of events, which includes a presentation by Professor Rafat Misak, KISR on the facts and impacts of desertification in Kuwait and solutions to prevent it. The event will be held at Al-Dourra hall, Hilton hotel, Mangaf on 5 June from 19.00 hrs to 20.30 hrs followed by dinner. The event is sponsored by M/s Delham General Trading and Contracting Company. SAUDI ARABIA

To celebrate World Environment Day, GSK Jeddah has organized an event with school students. They will be planting trees at one of parks near the school. 60 Students between the age of 10-12 with 40 other staff and Volunteers will Participate in this event. The event will include the following activities:
      • Cleaning of park area with help from Glaxo Volunteer Staff;

      • Placing banners and environmental awareness posters inside the park;

      • Planting 5 Bazromia trees inside the park;

The trees will have the following titles: Deserts and Desertification - Don't Desert Dry Lands, Embedding Culture of care, Green Cities -Plant for the Planet, Foundations for the Future and Water Two Billion People are Dying for it.

To celebrate World Environment Day, Emirates Diving Association in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, HSBC Middle East, Tadweer, Dubai Eye 103.8 FM and Jumeira will be celebrating the World Environment Day 2006 next Monday in UAE with the following events:

  • Special event / visit in Dibba Marine Protect Area-UAE East Coast, more than 25 staff from HSBC Bank and Tadweer (Recycling Company) will be visiting, diving and snorkeling the reserve run by the Emirates Diving Association (a UNEP Accredited NGO) and the Ministry of Environment in UAE;

  • Special Radio show to mark the day from the East Coast- Dubai EYE 103.8 FM, Siobhan Live" from 12- 2 pm of 5 June;

  • Special poster to mark the day;

  • Highlighting the day by the green sail illumination at the Burj Al Arab for 20h00 - 21h00 on 5 June 2006. Photographs will be made available for distribution;
