10:10

In support of WED 2010, 10:10 campaigns are launching publicly around the world. There are events planned in Paris, Nigeria, Germany, Portugal and across cities in America.

10:10 is a global campaign to reduce carbon emissions by 10% in a year - starting in 2010. Any person, family, business, school or other organization can cut 10% and by working together we can make sure our actions count. The campaign launched in the UK in Sept 09 and in nine short months has amassed cross-societal support including Microsoft, Sony, Adidas, a premiership football club and 40% of all local councils. The new UK government announced a 10:10 commitment in their first few days of power - the equivalent emissions reduction of taking 200,000 cars off the road.

 

 

Art Works for Change

In support of WED 2010, Art Works for Change created an online photography exhibition that explores the critical connections between humans and biodiversity. The exhibition, “Millions of Pieces, Only One Puzzle,” will launch on June 1 on the UNEP and Art Works for Change websites.

Art Works for Change produces international contemporary art exhibitions to address social and environmental issues. It uses the transformative power of art as a vehicle to promote dialogue and awareness, inspire action and thought, and address systems for social change. It uses the storytelling power of art to foster learning opportunities among a diverse population.

 

 

Biomimicry Institute

In support of World Environment Day, the Biomimicry Institute provided scientific information for the WED 2010 poster series.

The Biomimicry Institute (TBI) is a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to nurturing and growing the global community of people learning from, emulating, and conserving life’s genius to create a healthier and more sustainable human existence on this planet.

 

CinemAmbiente

In support of WED 2010, CinemAmbiente, Italy's prime environmental film festival directed by Gaetano Capizzi and co-organized by the National Museum of Cinema, has moved its customary autumn date forward to spring to coincide with WED. CinemAmbiente will run from 1-6 June in Torino, Italy. In addition, CinemAmbiente, in collaboration with agencies and associations, will hold special film screenings in 20 cities throughout Italy on 5 June.

CinemAmbiente is the head of the Environmental Film Festival Network (EFFN) and Europe's first zero-emission festival.

 

Clean Up the World

In support of World Environment Day 2010, Clean Up the World will invite its member organisations around the globe to conduct environmental activities with a focus on protecting and promoting biodiversity in their communities. Activities such as planting native trees, cleaning up local parks and waterways, conducting nature walks or organising environmental education exercises will be undertaken. Members will also register their local activities with UNEP.

Now celebrating its 18th year, Clean Up the World, held in conjunction with UNEP, mobilises an estimated 35 million volunteers from 120 countries annually making it one of the largest community based environmental campaigns in the world. While its Member’s activities can be conducted throughout the year, including World Environment Day, Clean Up the World’s flagship event is Clean Up the World Weekend, 17-19 September 2010. Clean Up the World is a not-for-profit, non-government, apolitical organisation that unites communities with a common focus to clean up the world. Green TV

In support of WED 2010, Green TV is promoting WED 2010 video materials throughout their online channels, including GreenTV News, iTunes, Blinkx, MySpace, YouTube and Metacafe.

Green TV is the world's leading online TV channel for 'green' video. New films are available every day from organisations working around the world. Green TV is proud to be partnered with UNEP and is supporting World Environment Day by promoting WED films and covering relevant stories in its weekly news broadcast.

 

ENERGY Globe Award

In support of World Environment Day 2010, the Energy Globe Awards will be held during the World Environment Day celebrations in Kigali, Rwanda. The ENERGY GLOBE Award TV Gala - a WED partnership project - will take place on 3 June. It will be broadcast worldwide.

The ENERGY GLOBE Award was initiated by the Austrian Mr. Wolfgang Neumann and has been awarded annually since 2000. It distinguishes projects from all around the world that conserve natural resources and utilize renewable or emission-free sources. The goal of the ENERGY GLOBE Award is to create the necessary awareness concerning solutions to our environmental problems and to demonstrate that each of us can make a positive contribution. The ENERGY GLOBE Jury is headed by Congresswoman Maneka Gandhi, former Indian Minister for Environment.

 

Korean Air

In support of WED 2010, Korean Air will celebrate WED with their passengers all around the world by showing the WED public service announcement featuring Gisele Bundchen. Korean Air will show the video from 3-9 June on all flights which last more than two hours.

LG Electronics

In support of WED 2010, LG Electronics will hold LGE Global Volunteer Day with all five LGE domestic business sites and 89 overseas subsidiaries. The global celebrations will include activities to stay green and a campagin to promote a green lifestyle: reducing the use of disposable goods, increasing the use recyclable goods, using public transport, riding bicycles, turning off unused lights, and saving water.

LG Electronics, Inc. is a global leader and technology innovator in consumer electronics, mobile communications and home appliances, employing more than 82,000 people working in 117 operations including 89 subsidiaries around the world. With 2009 global sales of 55.5 trillion Korean Won (43.4 billion USD), LG comprises of five business units – Home Entertainment, Mobile Communications, Home Appliance, Air Conditioning and Business Solutions.

 

Microsoft

In support of World Environment Day 2010, Microsoft is working with UNEP to raise awareness about WED celebrations. Microsoft MSN is airing the UNEP Public Service Announcement on the home portal in the US and several European countries. In addition, an article about Microsoft’s work with UNEP will be distributed to employees globally with a call to action to engage in the WED online campaign.

UNEP and Microsoft have worked together under a public-private partnership since 2009 to create and support programs and solutions to address critical environmental challenges. As part of broader efforts to build global partnerships for development, Microsoft and UNEP pool their respective expertise and explore how technology can help address these challenges in innovative ways.

 

In support of WED 2010, the National Geographic Society and GlobeScan presented the 2010 results of the annual Greendex consumer behaviour study. This quantitative consumer study of 17,000 consumers in 17 countries (14 in 2008) asked about such behavior as energy use and conservation, transportation choices, food sources, the relative use of green products versus traditional products, attitudes towards the environment and sustainability, and knowledge of environmental issues. The Greendex measures the impact of the average consumer in each country surveyed; it does not measure the environmental impact of a total country.

The National Geographic Society is one of the world’s largest nonprofit scientific and educational organizations. Founded in 1888 to “increase and diffuse geographic knowledge,” the Society works to inspire people to care about the planet. It reaches more than 375 million people worldwide each month through its official journal, National Geographic, and other magazines; National Geographic Channel; television documentaries; music; radio; films; books; DVDs; maps; exhibits; live events; school publishing programs; interactive media; and merchandise. National Geographic has funded more than 9,200 scientific research, conservation and exploration projects and supports an education program combating geographic illiteracy.

Nakumatt

In support of World Environment Day, Nakumatt Holdings is donating one percent of all June sales in Rwandan stores to the WED Legacy initiative – ‘Take a Stand for the Gorillas’.

Nakumatt Holdings is the holding company for East Africa’s leading chain of retail stores. Nakumatt has 27 stores dealing in general retail merchandise, and is the largest retailer in East Africa, Uganda and Rwanda, and is still expanding to the wider East African region.

 

Nickelodeon

In support of WED 2010, Nickelodeon has featured UNEP as the Big Help Partner and activities in which kids partake will go towards Big Help Points as well towards the WED Legacy Initiative.

The Big Help is Nickelodeon's commitment to engage kids to action and make a difference in their world. The Big Help allows kids to connect to their passions by participating in Big Help Actions. The Actions drive kids to specific real world activities that affect the world around them.
The campaign focuses on four key concerns important to kids today - Environment, Health & Wellness, Education, and Community. Launched in 1979, Nickelodeon has grown to become the most-watched television network by kids in the United States and basic cable's number-one network overall. Nickelodeon’s "kids first" philosophy is the key element to its business successes, which in addition to television now include feature films, consumer products, records, online, recreation and publishing.

 

Prince's Mayday Network

In support of WED 2010, the Prince's Mayday Network and Business in the Community are encouraging all of their members to use WED2010 as a day to demonstrate to their stakeholders what positive environmental actions they are already taking and to launch new environmental initiatives.

The Prince's Mayday Network, convened by Business in the Community, is a collaboration of businesses at all stages of the low carbon journey. It was named after the international 'mayday mayday' distress signal and founded by HRH The Prince of Wales in 2007. Its aim is to inspire, engage, support and challenge as many businesses as possible as they work together towards a sustainable future. Business in the Community mobilises business for good. Its approach to responsible business provides a clear framework to support and challenge business to improve its performance and benefit society through community, workplace, marketplace, and environment.

 

Racepoint Group

In support of World Environment Day 2010, Racepoint Group is working with UNEP and the Government of Rwanda to raise awareness about WED celebrations. Racepoint Group partnered with UNEP and Treehugger for the WED Blogging Competition which will see one lucky blogger win a free trip to Rwanda for the WED celebrations from 3-5 June 2010.

Safaricom

In support of World Environment Day 2010, Safaricom will send UNEP-Safaricom Green Tips via text message in the lead up to WED. The tips will bring green messages to the more than four million subscribers who use the "Please Call Me" service with Safaricom.

Formed at the turn of the decade following the liberalization of Kenya’s telecoms sector as a joint venture between global leader Vodafone of the UK and the government of Kenya, Safaricom has firmly established its credentials as a regional leader, spawning a virtual telecoms revolution in Kenya. The Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International

In support of WED 2010, the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International has assisted in organizing events in Rwanda. In addition, the Fossey Fund has kindly contributed photographs for use in WED related materials.

The Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International is dedicated to the conservation and protection of gorillas and their habitats in Africa. Founded by Dr. Dian Fossey as the Digit Fund and renamed after her death, the Fossey Fund operates the Karisoke Research Center in Rwanda, and maintains a staff of scientists, trackers and anti-poaching patrols in Volcanoes National Park. The Fund also works with community-managed reserves and national parks in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and operates extensive education, health and other community outreach programs. 

 

Treehugger

In support of World Environment Day 2010, Treehugger is working with UNEP to raise awareness about WED celebrations. Treehugger partnered with UNEP and Racepoint Group (on behalf of the Government of Rwanda) for the WED Blogging Competition which will see one lucky blogger win a free trip to Rwanda for the WED celebrations from 3-5 June 2010.

UNEP National Committee for the Republic of Korea

In support of World Environment Day 2010, the UNEP National Committee for the Republic of Korea will host the 10th National Children’s Environment Painting Competition and Award Ceremony on 30 May with Homeplus (TESCO) and MoE. The National Committee has also organized a street campaign by university student groups (UNEP ANGEL) at eight locations on World Environment Day. The National Committee is also publishing copies (online and in print) of the TUNZA Magazine in Korean, as well as the YouthXchange book in Korean.

UNEP National Committee for the Republic of Korea was established in 1996 as non-profit organization in Korea and promotes UNEP’s initiatives and campaigns in Korea through releasing publications including quarterly magazines such as Our Planet and TUNZA in Korean, educating children and youth and promoting UNEP’s initiatives such as Seal the Deal, Carbon Neutral Network Initiatives and World Environment Day. UNEP National Committee for the Republic of Korea co-hosted UNEP TUNZA International Children and Youth Conference in 2009 with 1,000 participants from 105 countries.

 

World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA)

In support of WED 2010, the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) is promoting WED by encouraging members to take part in WED through an on-line information page.

WAZA is the unifying organisation for the world zoo and aquarium community. Its mission is to provide leadership and support for zoos, aquariums, and partner organizations of the world in animal care and welfare, conservation of biodiversity, environmental education and global sustainability. WAZA supports biodiversity conservation and is partnering with CBD, the Convention on Biological Diversity on the occasion of the International Year of Biodiversity 2010. For WAZA and its members biodiversity is the theme for 2010 and zoos and aquariums worldwide are joining in with numerous events and activities. WAZA therefore fully supports the related activities for WED 2010, information and supporting material is provided on www.waza.org

 

Working Pictures

In support of WED 2010, Working Pictures donated time and resources towards the creation of the compelling WED 2010 public service announcement featuring UNEP Goodwill Ambassador Gisele Bündchen.

Co-owners and director/producer Bobby Sheehan and his wife producer/director Sara Feldmann Sheehan have directed television commercials, feature films, documentaries, and television programming for major network and cable venues.
