In Garissa County, Kenya, dignitaries and students gathered for WED 2014 celebrations, which were geared towards protecting and conserving water catchments and wetlands. This has been done through Garissa Youth Environment Movement in partnership with the Ministry of Environment, Water and Natural Resources through the Northern Water Services Board (NWSB) and Water Resources Management Authority (WARMA).
Students from different schools recited poems, presented songs, plays, documentaries and exhibits that dealt with conservation. The event also recognized the best environmental practices which contributed to the success of biodiversity conservation in the area.
Environmentalist Abdikadir Aden urged the Kenyan people to raise their voices towards ensuring environmental sustainability, speaking at celebrations held at Iftin Primary School.
