Mrs. Habiba Al Marashi is a founding member of the Emirates Environmental Group, which began in 1991, with only 12 members. The EEG was formed (and remains) as a voluntary, non-profit, non-government organization. The group is open to all nationalities of all ages. Mrs. Habiba currently chairs a membership of almost a thousand members (individuals, corporate, schools and colleges & government and private organization). She is a member of board of trustees of Dubai International Award for the Best Practices Award, member of the Environmental Committee of Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi Foundation. She has been appointed among 36 dignitaries and officials of federal and local departments by a decree issued by Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, giving her authority to issue notices with regards to public hygiene offences.
She has several papers to her credit on different environmental issues presented in local and international events.
Mrs. Habiba through her work with the EEG aims to provide the public with education and awareness of both local and global environmental issues. She aims to promote positive action and to encourage responsibility for the preservation and protection of the environment. She also aims to collect information, make it available for educational and research purposes, and to encourage participation in environmental activities by all.
Under Mrs. Al Mar'ashi's able stewardship, the Group went on from a fledgling NGO to become a large conglomerate of like thinking, environment conscious individuals and organisations working together for the realisation of sustainable development in the country and abroad.
