About GEO Year Book 2007

The GEO Year Book 2007 is the fourth report in this series on environmental challenges produced by UNEP, in collaboration with some of the world’s leading environmental experts.

The 2007 Year Book includes global and regional overviews of significant developments during the previous year. The Feature Focus section analyzes the intersection between the environment and globalization processes, where ecosystem services and human well-being (which depends on those services) are affected by natural resource exploitation in response to global demand. It also explores some innovative policy mechanisms that link the global supply of goods and services with sustainable development objectives.

Emerging scientific and policy challenges related to nanotechnology are examined from an environmental perspective. Nanotechnology is expected to bring heath and environmental benefits, but the adoption of appropriate assessment and regulatory approaches is vitally important.
