As an implementer of CCAC and its Waste Initiative, ABRELPE develops technical assistance projects in Brazilian cities such as the megacity of São Paulo and Curitiba, and seeks to highlight these cases among other cities to scale up best practices in organic waste treatment. But, it intends to go further: by 2020, insert reduction targets for the waste sector in national NDCs; until 2025 to support the Brazilian government for public policies that stimulate clean treatment technologies for municipal solid waste systems such as composting and anaerobic digestion; and to see in 2030 a leading country in the region in reducing methane emissions from the waste sector.

We seek to address all environmental issues in western Kenya. These include deforestation, soil erosion, desertification, water shortage and degraded water quality, flooding, poaching, and domestic and industrial pollution. According to a United Nations report of 2016 titled "Actions on Air Quality", at least 14,300 Kenyans die every year from health conditions which can be traced back to indoor air pollution with pneumonia cited as one of the biggest killers associated with air pollution. The air pollution in Kenya increases childhood risk of pneumonia as well as their lifelong risk of chronic respiratory diseases, heart disease, stroke and cancer.  Most households without access to safe water and sanitation, or that are polluted with smoke from unclean fuels such as fire wood, charcoal or dung for cooking and heating have higher risk of diarrhoea and pneumonia among children.  Alongside reducing pollution of all types, we intend to promote air quality monitoring in western Kenya. Air quality monitoring is practically non-existent, although a few cases of monitoring have happened after complaints from the public, only to be abandoned later on.

CfSD intends to reverse degraded environmental conditions to save thousands of children under five (5) years and adults above 50 years lives at risk of dying from preventable climate change in slums of Kibera, Kawangware, Mathare and Mukuru among others. An in-depth study done on global warming by Kenya Meteorological Departments in collaboration with lead sponsor John Hopkins University, a US-Based research Institution in the survey, revealed steadily increasing temperatures between 20 - 35 degrees Celsius due to congested housing, lack of vegetation among other factors. The projected interventions include: creating awareness of the problem and managing heat stress challenges associated with it; training slum communities on valuing and making tree nurseries; planting trees seedlings within residential areas; engaging communities on environment education and cleaning and health advocacy; mentoring women and youth on green SMEs agro-based livelihood projects; environmental public health tracking data; policy dialogues with policy-makers, county government and institutional collaborations; Heat management guiding tools e.g magazine, posters, flyers to alert parents, youth and elderly; Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting.  Outcomes: population will be more informed, educated on health and environment issues; clean environment culture adopted; green canopy on the slum will moderate the climate and reduce increasing temperatures; over 10,000 children under 5 years old and 5000 elderly lives will be saved from danger; Governments will be more accountable; With added oxygen and reduction of carbon-dioxide, population enjoy better health, earn more income and live long and be more productive to build the country and the world at large.

Outcomes:  By 2018: Support the approval of a law with incentives zero emissions, electric transportation in Costa Rica.  Get the government and companies to sign a "Electric Mobility Pact" with self-design electric mobility pledges (electric vehicles, bus, charging points).      By 2021: This is the year of 200 years of independence so we want to help shape a national dialogue around banning gasoline and diesel cars. Bring the notion of breaking free from fossil fuels as a national topic. In particular, we want to collaborate with champions in governments, municipalities and the private sector.   By 2025:  Encourage a national assessment of the state of our Paris targets. Emirates Environmental Group (EEG) aims to maximise its waste management commitments in order to contribute to the local action of the UAE to achieve the sustainable development goals. The organisation focuses on collecting seven recycling materials, which include paper, glass, aluminium cans, plastic, mobile phones, toners and batteries. Throughout the year, EEG rolls out various effective campaigns to engage the local community in the collection of these waste materials. EEG's members consist of corporate entities, academic entities and families, who actively participate in these campaigns and deposit large quantities of the waste materials. EEG spreads awareness about the its waste management campaigns and initiatives through various fliers and presentations and through the use of its social media platforms. Throughout the year, the organisation conducts numerous workshops, meetings and panel discussions during which it encourages the individuals to participate and contribute in the waste management commitment. EEG hopes that the outcomes to be achieved will include the reduction in the accumulation of waste in the country, as well as in CO2 emissions. Furthermore, the waste management commitments have a positive impact on landfills as the collection of such materials as paper, saves the number of trees from being cut down. The organisation aims to contribute to the achievement of the UAE Vision 2021 by increasing the percentage of recycled waste and to the global Sustainable Development Goals.

Can Collection Drive 2017

Description:

As part of its Can Collection Campaign, Emirates Environmental Group (EEG) will hold its annual Can Collection Drive on the 28th of October 2017. The aim of the Drive is to collect a target of 8,000 kgs of aluminium cans for recycling from the 7 Emirates. The meaningful day allows for the reduction of waste in the landfills and fosters responsibility in the local community members, corporate entities and government bodies.

On the day of the event, 5 pick up sites will be set up around the country, where individuals and entities will be able to submit their collected aluminium cans. The submissions will be weighted and recorded and then sent to the recycling factories.

EEG's commitment considers the importance of the #BeatPollution movement and hence incorporated this hashtag into a uniquely designed Can Collection Drive flyer, which has been shared on EEG's social media platforms and its monthly newsletter.

Furthermore, EEG's corporate, student and academic members were encouraged to register their aluminium cans deposits as individual commitments on the UNEP website.

The Drive will boost the amount of aluminium cans that are sent to recycling facilities in the country, contributing to the reduction of waste in the landfills, a decrease in greenhouse gas emissions and energy savings. The United Arab Emirates are on a strong path towards becoming the global sustainability hub and EEG's commitment contributes to the achievement of these goals, including the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the UAE Vision 2021.

Description:

Many sources of pollution are related to waste. Not only in a narrow understanding of it: waste management, but more in general - waste of resources. Wrong management of production processes, wasteful and inefficient supply chains, delivery models and consumption patterns all contribute to environmental pollution.

The EEB is addressing those problems with its work on promoting and improving the concept of Circular Economy, which covers the whole cycle of the product, substance or business model.

We are advocating at the EU level on ambitious product policies and waste legislation as we find them very closely interlinked.

Circular economy also brings a different narrative which is inclusive for the local communities that can manage their resources themselves keeping in mind Zero Waste principles, waste prevention, reuse and recycling in the same time limiting or eliminating landfilling or incineration. This narrative is also involving businesses who need to change their paradigm of production, sometimes involving changing the business model from scratch, but in the same time securing their business flow in a long term and resist to the rising price of primary raw resources. The extraction of primary resources is a major cause of pollution, so reducing its use via better design of products for their longevity, durability and repairability and recyclability = via the real circular economy that with serve most of all the environment and the society, but also those businesses that with respect it. All others shall be phased-out just as their harmful activities creating pollution.

APPROACH

Our organization will make use of our existing informal networks across the country to achieve our objectives and outcomes by,

1. Formation of an e-waste association for the informal sector , This will be used for easy outreach during trainings

and setting up of collection centers through the use of shared infrastructures. It will also facilitate easy collection

coordination and setting of e-waste collection standards countrywide.

2. Get into partnerships with village technical training centers and public private partnerships.

3. Attending of international and local exchange programs /conferences /trainings and online forums.

4. We shall conduct training to the informal sector and create awareness to the local communities.

5. Partner with international donor organizations for technical training and financial assistance.

L'objectif de ce projet est de sensibiliser et de promouvoir la transition du moteur à combustible fossile à la moto électrique sur le marché marocain en initiant une réflexion sur l'introduction de la moto électrique au Maroc comme phase pilote, en fédérant et en mobilisant les acteurs concernés et en sensibilisant sur ses impacts.

L'introduction de la motocyclette électrique fait partie des mesures d'atténuation de la pollution de l'air, puisque la plupart des motocyclettes utilisent des moteurs à combustion émettant des polluants à émissions élevées aggravés par le manque d'entretien. Le problème des motocyclettes est connu à Marrakech et représente l'une des principales sources de pollution.

En conséquence, une étude de faisabilité du projet sera lancée fin 2017, suivie de l'introduction du prototype au niveau de la ville de Marrakech, en vue de sa généralisation d'ici 2020 à Marrakech-Safi Région.

Une fois l'étude terminée en 2018, la Fondation:

- Facilitera le dialogue entre les décideurs politiques et les partenaires concernés

- Assurera la coordination avec le PNUE pour renforcer les capacités des partenaires concernés et partager les meilleures pratiques

- Fin 2018: Commencera à étudier différentes propositions de modèles économiques pour la mise en œuvre du projet

- 2019-2020: Etudiera l'expérience pour améliorer le déploiement de ce nouveau mode de transport et le comportement des utilisateurs d'e-motocycles

A través de una plataforma digital que permita registrar residuos y cuantifica el impacto ambiental, económico, brinde información georeferenciada sobre recuperadores, recolectores y acopiadores y un modelo de reciclaje que denominamos Modelo Colmena basado en la Economía Colaborativa y un desarrollo industrial optimizado promoviendo la Economía Circular y generando nuevos productos con valor agregado como pellet o hilos plásticos de impresora 3D, techos para vivienda con el polialuminio de Tetrabricks o celdas inteligentes de vapo-transpiracion para regulación térmica de espacios habitables.

Solo en Posadas se desperdician aprox 9 TN diarias solamente de residuos plásticos que una vez bien tratado y reciclado puede volver a la economía y significar solo en un año casi 10 millones de pesos y no sólo reduciendo el impacto ambiental que son aprox 128 Tn de CO2 sino también como una solución a la mejoría de condiciones sociales.

Vemos que hay familias que no tienen un techo digno, y los tetrabricks los tenemos en nuestras casas para procesarlos! En Campo Viera, entre hogares, comercios e instituciones, mensualmente se pueden recuperar aprox. 300 M2 de techo a partir del polialuminio, lo que representa 8 casas techadas y se salvan 35 árboles que seguirán en pie al recuperar la pulpa de papel.

The process aims to assist governments to:

1. Better measure and understand the scope of toxic pollution (including indoor and urban air, water & sanitation and soil contamination), the associated burden of disease and the possible economic impacts to a country.

2. Prioritize areas for intervention.

3. Develop an intervention plan for the pollution issue/s of most pressing concern.

The HPAP process is driven by national agencies, with facilitation and support by GAHP members. The HPAP differs from other planning process because it is intentionally structured to bring together different agencies and parties who usually do not work closely together. It is intended to promote collaboration, and have well-defined and practical outcomes, including commitments by all the participants, including international partners and donors, to undertake specific short- and medium-term actions for improved environmental health.

Depending on the national context, the scope of the HPAP may include indoor and outdoor air pollution, unsafe water and inadequate sanitation, chemical contamination of soil, and occupational exposures to pollutants. We commit to quantifying the health impacts and costs resulting from fossil fuel use; to engage health experts network in advocacy activities around international processes, at EU level and in target countries.

We commit to building capacity among environmental and other groups on how to use health arguments when advocating for an end to fossil fuels and to achieve high visibility for the health arguments by working with key national, medical, and EU policy media as well as social media.

Fossil fuel subsidies must end by 2020 in developed countries and 2025 in developing nations, making room for renewable, healthy energies and ultimately improving health now and in the future through climate action. We must stop funding ill-health, premature deaths and additional health costs, we must end fossil fuel subsidies.

A.S.A.P. (Active Skiathos Against Plastic bag) is a project aiming at radically reducing the single use plastic bags in Skiathos island. It is based on an integrated, targeted and continuous raising awareness process that started in 2016 and has an extremely positive reception by the local community, authorities and professionals of the island. The project is carried out by the MEDITERRANEAN SOS network and it is funded by the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, the BeMed initiative, the Thalassa Foundation, the Municipality of Skiathos and the MEDITERRANEAN SOS Network; it is supported by "Skiathos" Culture Association. The project contains a wide range of informative activities including voluntary cleanups, environmental education, participatory activities, press dissemination, distribution of cotton bags, street events etc. The successful implementation of the program has already achieved not only a significant engagement of the local community but also the island's touristic upgrade to an environmental friendly destination. Furthermore, A.S.A.P. project has triggered synergies and networking with relevant projects in national and European level. It is expected to have a continuous impact, long after its typical closure, not only in regards with the reduction of single use plastic bags, but also in regards with the environmental awareness of the citizens and visitors of Skiathos.

MEDITERRANEAN SOS Network will coordinate the large-scale campaign "Clean up the Med", which consists of voluntary natural area cleanings around Greece. It is estimated that approximately 20.000 volunteers will participate including schools, municipalities, sport academies, cultural associations, hotels, companies and other entities. One of the crucial attributes of this campaign, that differentiates it from relevant initiatives, is that the volunteers are asked to fill out specially developed questionnaires in regards with the litter they find during the clean–ups. Consequently, volunteers are taking part in a unique and important task by providing much of the needed background information for future management plans regarding litter pollution levels as there is lack of a systematic approach by local authorities or other stakeholders. The clean-ups are basically symbolic, aiming to raise awareness on the significance of personal engagement and contribution for the protection of the coastal and marine environment. Furthermore, the campaign will promote the issues of circular economy and the replacement of single use plastics in our everyday life, as key aspects of the marine pollution prevention. Through its promotional material (TV and radio spot, leaflets, articles etc), the campaign aims at informing the citizens about the concept and the good practices of circular economy and at the same time at motivating them to stop using single use plastics, that cannot be a part of circular economy.

At the same time, efforts should be made by all powers (governments and local authorities) to make effective changes and works to create spaces / gardens in the urban area where silence (or sounds of relaxation) are A reality.

2030 - up to 2030 bans on the circulation and transit regulations (as well as all necessary infrastructure) of vehicles with internal combustion engines should be avoided. Promote green mobility, based on clean, alternative energy sources with low emissions of greenhouse gases and others.

With this type of measures, the populations will have more and better quality of life.

Note: we have yet to sum up the land area/ coverage of our network's operational areas. In the Philippines among three tribes this is about 47,000 hectares of which forest range from 65% to 80%

1. maintaining and increasing forests cover for carbon sink in all areas of operation

2. reforesting degraded forests or establishing agroforestries

3. shifting from chemical based farming to organic/natural farming to reduce pollution in air, soil, water and food from agricultural chemical and to maximize use of biodegradable materials for organic fertilizers

4. expanding areas of agro-ecological systems for soil to prevent water run off, and improving capacities of soil to function as carbon sinks rather than emitting carbon;

5. advocate for sound waste management

These objectives are within the integrated indigenous peoples self-determined development with community-based monitoring and information systems. While most are building capacities within the community to do manage their own information and data which requires more resources, some have started working with their local government unit and with schools. Each area have started with their own assessment of lands territories and resources where trends in pollution in land, especially in water are observed. There remains a major task for building communities capacity to monitor using different tools but each have developed their own innovative tools and methodologies including traditional mapping, use of photos, use of GIS, google maps.

Description:

On December 14, 2012, the Vorniceni Village Council, Republic of Moldova, approved a decision (nr. 8/16) concerning changing the destination of a land area for the purpose of arranging of a square (2,65 ha), this constituting one of the objectives of the Socio-Economic Development Strategy of Vorniceni village. Part of this land was planted with trees some 40 years ago but there has been a lack of appropriate care which is reflected in the deplorable condition they are currently in. Moreover, the design is far from being a modern one.

The Decision of the Village Council to plant trees on the respective public plot was taken due to the mutual initiative of the local civil society and the "Terra-1530" NGO. From the very start more partners were committed to finding a solution for a community problem of global importance.

Objectives: 1. Preparation of the village citizenry, over 5,000 people, to make decisions related to environmental problems by involving them in volunteer activities such as the installation of a metallic fence surrounding the square as well as setting up an information panel, dustbins, benches, sidewalks and lamps throughout the plot; 2. Providing knowledge about Vorniceni village by distributing the "Adevarul" publication ("The Truth"); 3. Posting short videos on YouTube; and 4. Holding international conferences with Romanian and Ukrainian partners to promote similar activities.

As we approach, 2020,2025,-2030,our commitment & objective is to leave on an environment that is free from pollution, carbon fumes, plastic bags & papers that block, our sewers, & are dangerous to our rivers, delegating our youth to eliminate garbage & dirt, that end up on our river banks, & on at shell just going green , so that our children & children  may be free from human made, sickness, repercussions that can be prevented, reducing even greater problems & sickness , like cancer which is also coursed with toxic fumes & operating on unclean environment, reducing it by 40%-50% respectively, our rivers, lakes & oceans, becoming an advocate, whistle, blower of factory, waste, toxic chemicals that are dumped on our waters, & making sure that as we approach the year 2030, our rivers will flow with clean clear waters - un contaminated , our lakes & oceans advocacy to avoid factory waste contamination, for our fish of the seas including our lakes initiatives to eradicate water hyacinth, which has escalated to our lake making it more difficult for the increase & of our fish in the lakes etc, having a green environment, having nature take its course, as the late Professor Wangari Mathai once said that if you mess nature cutting of trees for charcoal, nature will strike back & the effects will be felt by all, so going green & having more trees planted on our forest & river banks etc.
