The Global Water Partnership-Caribbean (GWP-C) in collaboration with our Global Environment Facility-funded (GEF) CReW+ project is organising workshops for young persons and the media on Integrated Water and Wastewater Management (IWWM).
The workshops will commence in September 2022 and are open to Caribbean youths and journalists residing in GWP-C partner countries or Caribbean CReW+ countries.
Caribbean CReW+ countries: Barbados, Belize, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago.
Youth Workshop: To Save Water…Let’s Talk About Shit
This workshop will be open to young Caribbean nationals aged 18-34 years.
Scope
This workshop is geared towards involving youth in the topic of Integrated Water and Wastewater Management (IWWM). Participants will be exposed to a wide range of issues related to wastewater reuse in the Caribbean region including:
- The benefits of treated wastewater reuse
- New and innovative technologies in wastewater recycling
- Youth advocacy: why the voice of youth matters in IWWM
- The linkages between wastewater and other trending issues such as climate change and gender
- #LetsTalkAboutShit – creating fresh and dynamic social media campaigns and content relating to wastewater
As part of this workshop, participants will also be given the opportunity to create social media content to raise awareness of IWWM among Caribbean youth and the wider public.

Journalist Communications Workshop: Changing the Rhetoric - The Media's Role in Saving Water
This workshop will be open to Caribbean journalists.
Scope
The purpose of this workshop is to give an overview of wastewater management and sanitation in the Caribbean, including insight into governance frameworks for wastewater management at the national, regional and global levels. More importantly, it will focus on media coverage of wastewater in the Caribbean and expose journalists to:
- The benefits of treated wastewater reuse
- New and innovative technologies in wastewater recycling
- The do’s and don’ts of covering wastewater
- The linkages between wastewater and other trending issues such as climate change and gender
- Generating buzz: how to pitch wastewater and break the wastewater reuse taboo.
As an integral part of this workshop, participants will also be given the opportunity to create a GWP-C funded video focused on a wastewater topic that will raise awareness among the public (including policymakers), and signpost the importance of wastewater management including the need for improved treatment and the potential for recycling and reuse.
