The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Global Partnership on Nutrient Management (GPNM) in collaboration with its partners, is organizing this webinar to highlight key challenges, responses and collaboration of sargassum in the context of the Caribbean and West-Africa, as well as highlight efforts of the Joint Group of Experts on the Scientific Aspects of Marine Environmental Protection (GESAMP) Working Group on Sargassum, and build on outcomes of the recent Sargassum International Conference (Guadeloupe, October 2019).

The 21st Global Annual Meeting of the Regional Seas Conventions and Action Plans will be held in Berlin, Germany October 3 to 5 2019. The meeting will be hosted by the Secretariat of the Helsinki Convention and will be held back to back with the Marine Regions Forum.

According the World Health Organization, 7 million people die prematurely every year as a direct or indirect result of air pollution. In addition, 93% of children live in areas where the air pollution levels are above the recommended standards of the World Health Organization.
