The 2024 IWC resumes after 6 years, in its 10th edition, hosted by the Government of Uruguay, in Punta del Este, under the theme: "Transformative actions and impacts for the water and ocean SDGs: The GEF IW response to the global challenge", to reunite the IW portfolio and celebrate 30 years of the GEF IW focal area.

Clinic 9: How participatory, multi-stakeholder processes can contribute to effective regional ocean governance in large marine ecosystems (LMEs)

The session will feature a small panel that has been involved with development of a regional ocean governance strategy for the Western Indian Ocean who will share their experiences of the process. We will also learn from experiences with ocean governance in the Seas of East Asia. This will set the scene for an interactive discussion with an audience drawn from other regional LME projects and programmes and a broad range of participants who have an interest in addressing issues around improved ocean governance.
