The UNEP COBSEA Secretariat has released a new science-policy brief titled 'Bridging Science and Policy for Evidence-Based Action on Plastic Pollution in the East Asian Seas and Beyond'.The brief is now available on the STI Forum website and aims to strengthen the science-policy interface and foster more frequent and productive interactions between scientists and policymakers at national, regional, and global levels.
The brief discusses the use of the Global Partnership on Plastic Pollution and Marine Litter (GPML) Digital Platform and the East Asian Seas Regional Node of the GPML to address knowledge gaps and policy priorities on marine plastic litter. These platforms allow stakeholders to make the most of scientific evidence for more effective action.
The STI Forum is an annual multi-stakeholder event that facilitates discussions on science, technology, and innovation cooperation in support of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The eighth annual STI Forum was held on May 3-4, 2023, with the theme "Science, technology and innovation for accelerating the recovery from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at all levels."
The UNEP COBSEA Secretariat's new policy brief is an important contribution to the STI Forum's efforts to promote evidence-based action on plastic pollution in the East Asian Seas and beyond.
