Marine and Coastal Spatial Planning Policy in the East Asian Seas

This report was prepared by the consultants for the Coordinating Body on the Seas of East Asia (COBSEA),
the UNEP Sustainable Blue Economy Initiative, and Blue Solutions Initiative (BSI). The report was prepared
with the aim of advancing Marine and Coastal Spatial Planning (MCSP) in the East Asian Seas Region by
identifying key recommended actions towards an enabling policy environment for MCSP, ecosystem-based
management and sustainable blue economy approaches and building capacity and supporting development,
in line with the COBSEA Strategic Directions 2018-2022. The report represents the opinion of the authors
writing in their academic and professional capacities. It does not purport to represent the view of COBSEA
participating countries. But it has been shared for information with and may be used by COBSEA participating
countries to inform development and implementation of actions addressing MCSP.
