Protecting the world’s forests and mangroves could prevent a loss of around USD$500 billion every year from the impacts of climate change. The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the UNEP World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC) offer an online training course on how the world can adapt to the impacts of climate change by integrating Nature-based Solutions into National Adaptation Plans.

Experts claim that National Adaptation Plans and using Nature-based Solutions are among the most important ways a country can ensure it adapts to climate change. This online course explores the profound advantages and strengths of combining these two approaches and ensuring that National Adaptation Plans harness the power of Nature-based Solutions.

The 60-90-minute course not only looks at the extraordinary opportunities, but crucially, the severe risks of failing to recognize and incorporate nature into these plans.

A unique feature of the online course is that participants can explore an interactive landscape online that models the impacts of climate change on the ecosystem and the optimum nature-based solutions. The launch event included a demo on this new interactive feature.
