Description

In Albania, UNEP is working with the Ministry of Tourism and Environment to improve the capacity of the Kune-Vaini lagoon ecosystem to adapt to climate change and provide vital goods and services to local communities. A rapid increase in population size and widespread poverty in the area have led to increasing pressure on the lagoon for resources. This unsustainable use of the lagoon system is being compounded and exacerbated by the effects of climate change.

To respond to these observed challenges the project will improve the technical and institutional capacity of policy- and decision-makers in Albania to implement adaptation interventions, especially ecosystem-based adaptation (EbA). The project is also increasing the awareness among local communities of effective EbA actions.
