Fifth Edition of the Aqua Read Newsletter

This quarter's newsletter features a lead story announcing the remarkable investment made by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) amounting to a record $107 million. This investment is directed towards a circular economy plastics program led by the UN Environment Programme's as an Integrated Program, which aims to combat plastic pollution by addressing the entire life cycle of plastics across fifteen countries worldwide.

In our news highlights, we delve into various stories, starting with the UNEP-GEF Fisheries refugia project. In Southeast Asia, the initiative in Kuala Baram focuses on replenishing marine tiger prawn breeding stocks during their breeding season between August and October.

Furthermore, the newsletter covers the launch of the Volta ReWaRD initiative in West Africa, which is designed to combat ecosystem degradation. This project holds significant importance in preserving and protecting the region's precious Volta basin resources.

Additionally, we draw attention to the upcoming seventh Assembly of the GEF scheduled to take place in Vancouver this August, an event that promises to gather key stakeholders and further enhance global efforts towards environmental conservation.
