A national of Niger Republic, Adamou is currently serving as the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Task Manager Biodiversity and Land Degradation with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
Adamou specializes in Natural Resources Management and Environmental Law and is currently responsible for supporting countries in identification, development, and implementation of projects eligible to GEF.
With 18 years of continuing work on GEF projects and programmes, Adamou has evolved from national to regional and international levels working with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and UNEP and engaging with multitude of local, regional and global partners in sustainable development agenda. Adamou has supported governments to develop a huge portfolio of projects mainly on Biodiversity conservation and Sustainable Land Management.
As focal point for GEF’s support to United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) through UNEP, Adamou has interacted closely with convention partners and bodies all over the world and he has been instrumental in establishing what is now recognised as the first and well established Convention Reporting Platform: The Performance Review and Assessment of the Implementation System (PRAIS), through which parties develop and submit their national reports to the UNCCD Convention.
Adamou is a powerful advocate of gender mainstreaming and streamline process to provide resources to countries to ensure timely action on development and environment challenges.
Adamou is very proud of his wife and his 5 children to whom he dedicates all his free time and love.
