Mateo supports the Global Portfolio of the Climate Change Mitigation Unit, focusing on net-zero, nature-positive development, and urban nature solutions. He has seven years of experience in climate and urban policy.
Before joining UNEP in 2024, Mateo worked at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) on climate and environmental issues for cities and regions. Previously, he was part of the UNEP Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean, fostering collaboration between LAC countries and global UNEP initiatives, including the One Planet Network and the Global ABC.
A Colombian national, Mateo holds a master’s degree in Environmental Management and Territorial Planning.
