Thandeka Mbatha provides operational support for Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) projects under the UN Environment-Global Environment Facility Chemicals and Waste portfolio.
Thandeka previously managed POPs projects at the Africa Institute, a Basel and Stockholm Convention Regional Centre. Her work involved stakeholder engagement, policy development, and capacity-building initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable waste management practices and compliance with international environmental conventions. She has also worked in consulting, providing expertise in site investigations, environmental impact assessments, and remediation strategies to address pollution and land degradation.
Thandeka holds an honours degree in Environmental and Earth Sciences, with a strong background in environmental risk management, specialising in contaminated land assessments, remediation, and sustainability within the Geoscience and Water sector
