Interagency GEO Support Group

The Interagency GEO Support Group was established to provide technical support and interagency coordination during the GEO-6 assessment process. The group comprised 20–30 experts from UN agencies, funds, programmes, and multilateral bodies. 

Key roles and responsibilities (Terms of Reference): 

  • to provide technical support, as required, and exchange views on a regular basis on various aspects of the assessment process; 
  • facilitate systematic and timely information and data exchange among entities of the United Nations system and intergovernmental organizations in support of the GEO assessment; 
  • initiate and pursue, to the extent possible, cooperation and coordination in the implementation of GEO assessment activities, including outreach; and 
  • Identify areas that require enhanced complementarity and synergy and where duplication among existing assessment activities and processes of member agencies should be avoided.
