The Asia-Pacific Mercury Storage Project Execom Meeting took place in Surabaya, Indonesia from 29 - 30 July, 2011. The objectives were to provide governments and stakeholders a clear set of findings and recommendations that will help form a basis for a decision on a safe mercury storage option from the final draft options analysis study and to identify the next steps.

The two focus countries with developed national strategies have highlighted their experiences and a regional action plan with recommendations has been prepared as an outcome of the meeting. The conclusion meeting will continue to strengthen regional collaboration and capacity by inviting representatives from all ASGM countries in the region.

The Social and Financial Challenges of Artisanal and Small Scale Gold Mining meeting was organized for the international community and stakeholders to highlight changing global policies on mercury in light of the future global mercury treaty. Participants were invited to consider their possible role in developing and supporting an effective global solution in the artisanal and small-scale gold mining (ASGM) sector.

This consultation meeting was organized to bring together key country representatives and stakeholders of the completed and ongoing projects on mercury waste and storage to analyze gaps and overlaps. The meeting also agreed on three pilot projects to demonstrate or generate useful guidance.
