UNEP Global Mercury Partnership Workshop on Approaches to Reduce the Use of Mercury in Artisanal and Small Scale Gold Mining

The Social and Financial Challenges of Artisanal and Small Scale Gold Mining meeting was organized for the international community and stakeholders to highlight changing global policies on mercury in light of the future global mercury treaty. Participants were invited to consider their possible role in developing and supporting an effective global solution in the artisanal and small-scale gold mining (ASGM) sector.

This consultation meeting was organized to bring together key country representatives and stakeholders of the completed and ongoing projects on mercury waste and storage to analyze gaps and overlaps.  The meeting also agreed on three pilot projects to demonstrate or generate useful guidance.

The LAC Mercury Storage Project Regional Consultation meeting was a platform for presenting the final draft of the "Options Analysis for the Safe Long Term Storage of Mercury in the LAC Region" prepared by the Laboratorio Tecnológico del Uruguay (LATU). The annexes to this document are now availalbe.
