In order to support the countries developing National Action Plans (NAPs) for Artisanal and Small Scale Gold Mining (ASGM), the UN Environment Global Mercury Partnership has developed a template with suggested Table of Contents for the NAP document to be submitted to the Secretariat of the Minamata Convention. Development of NAPs for ASGM is an obligation under Article 7 of the Minamata Convention on Mercury for each country that determines that ASGM in its territory is more than insignificant.
This template is based on the UN Environment Guidance Document “Developing a National Action Plan to Reduce, and Where Feasible, Eliminate Mercury Use in Artisanal and Small Scale Gold Mining”. The use of the template is strongly recommended and facilitates compliance with Annex C of the Minamata Convention. Moreover, it promotes the integrity and consistency among the developed NAPs.
