Representing NOWPAP as an observer, the NOWPAP coordinator participated in the Sixteenth Session of the IOC/WESTPAC Coordinating Committee for the North-East Asian Regional-Global Ocean Observing System (NEAR-GOOS-CC-XVI) held in Tokyo, Japan, 8-9 December 2015. The meeting discussed ways of enhancing communication among its members and advancing NEAR-GOOS activities which should engage more partners and potential users (e.g. through working groups, joint projects, workshops).
The NOWPAP representative also attended a series of meetings organized for the Global Partnership on Waste Management (GPWM) in Osaka, Japan, on 16-18 December 2015 including an International Conference on Waste Management and a Steering Committee Meeting of GPWM. It was reconfirmed that NOWPAP would continue to support the GPWM development, in particular focal area marine litter, through contributing input to the GPWM knowledge platform.
