PICES 2012 Annual Meeting was held in Hiroshima, Japan on 12-21 October 2012. During the meeting, NOWPAP representatives attended several sessions, workshops, committee and working group meetings of interest to NOWPAP: marine invasive species, harmful algal blooms (HAB), persistent organic pollutants, etc. Poster on NOWPAP activities and Medium-term Strategy was presented.
Collaboration between NOWPAP and PICES was discussed on topics such as HAB, invasive species, and marine litter, which will be reflected in the PICES statement to be presented to the 17th NOWPAP IGM in November 2012 (including possibility to establish new section of PICES on pollutants).
Implementation of NOWPAP contributes to the Global Programme of Action for the Protection of the Marine Environment from Land-based Activities (GPA) in the Northwest Pacific region.
