NOWPAP RCU Toyama office staff joined the beach clean-up campaign at Iwasehama Beach in the morning of 28 September 2021. This event was a traditional annual campaign organized by the Northwest Pacific Region Environmental Cooperation Center (NPEC) together with Toyama Prefecture and Toyama City government officials. About 60 people participated in this event, including 40 school kids from a local elementary school and a high school and several NGO representatives and local residents. Participants were divided into six groups, four of which collected debris in the designated section on the beach, and the remaining two high-school student groups focused on micro-plastics. After the debris was collected, they were duly registered and sorted into a few individual categories. After processing the collected data, reports will be further consolidated with other reports from four additional sites in Toyama Prefecture by the Nihonkai Environmental Service Inc. for further submission to the Japan Environmental Action Network.
