As one of the NOWPAP partners in the region, NEAR-GOOS (Northeast Asian Regional - Global Ocean Observing System) was approached at the 11th Session of IOC/WESTPAC Co-ordinating Committee (CC) for NEAR-GOOS for developing cooperative relationship with NOWPAP. During the meeting held in Bangkok, Thailand on 18-19 January 2007, a representative from NOWPAP RCU presented an overview of NOWPAP activities and introduced possible areas for cooperation with NEAR-GOOS. The meeting accepted the suggestions from NOWPAP on enriching the NEAR-GOOS data in order to support the NOWPAP activities and on linking NOWPAP CEARAC remote sensing database to NEAR-GOOS and co-organizing a remote sensing data analysis training course. Follow-up actions will be taken in the future to facilitate the cooperation suggested.
Implementation of NOWPAP contributes to the Global Programme of Action for the Protection of the Marine Environment from Land-based Activities (GPA) in the Northwest Pacific region.
