This publication provides an analysis of the cases submitted in the context of the Global Montreal Protocol Award for Customs and Enforcement Officers. The Global Award was launched in 2018 by UNEP OzonAction. This Global Award is intended to raise awareness about the Montreal Protocol and to recognise customs and enforcement officials for their efforts in preventing and combating illicit traffic in Montreal Protocol and Kigali Amendment-regulated substances. Ozone-depleting substances (ODS) include hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) and other compounds with a high Global Warming Potential (GWP), particularly hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs).

The ninth edition of the International Special Issue, Advancing Kigali Goals through HVACR produced by Associazione Tecnici del Freddo (ATF) and Centro Studi Galileo(CSG) in collaboration with the United Nations Environment Programme and the International Institute of Refrigeration is a compilation of invaluable articles from leading global HVACR associations and experts, legislative bodies, NOUs and NGO sector. The articles cover a broad spectrum of related topics, e.g. HFC legislation, refrigerant transition, low-GWP refrigerants and technology options, servicing sector training and certification, energy efficiency in the context of the Kigali amendment, decarbonization, and advancing women’s involvement in the HVACR sector, to name a few. To enhance awareness in the HVACR sector, the Special Issue was widely distributed to government officials, and stakeholders at the 34th Meeting of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol in Montreal, Canada (31 October–4 November 2022).
This brochure targets the general public and explains in a simplified manner what the Montreal Protocol and its Kigali Amendment signify. It includes some actions that everybody can do to support the Kigali Amendment. It also covers the relationship between the Kigali Amendment and Sustainable Development Goals. It introduces some examples of successful communication campaigns on the Kigali Amendment.
