Through its resolution 5/8, the United Nations Environment Assembly requested the UNEP Executive Director to provide a secretariat for the ad hoc open-ended working group and to prepare the analytical and summary reports necessary for its work.
In August 2023, Tessa Goverse was appointed as the Secretariat's Principal Coordinator.
