The Ghana SWITCH Africa Green grants were officially awarded to the five successful applicants during an exceptional grant awards ceremony held on 21 July 2015 at the Orchid Hospitality Management Services Conference Room in Accra.
A total of 29 concept notes were received from Ghana during the first call for proposals, and after preliminary screening and evaluation, five Ghanaian organizations qualified for SWITCH Africa Green grants. The projects in Ghana focus on sustainable e-waste management, efficient use of energy in agro-processing, sustainable sanitation in hotels and industrial symbiosis.
The grants were presented by Mr. Herve Delsol, Programme Officer, Infrastructure and Sustainable Development Section, Delegation of the European Union to Ghana, and Mr. Fredua Agyeman, Director for Environment, Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation. Also in attendance were representatives from the Environmental Protection Agency, the United Nations Environment Programme, the United Nations Office for Project Services, the United Nations Development Programme, the Ghana SWITCH Africa Green National Technical Coordination Committee and various stakeholders.
