The Ghana National Stakeholder Workshop was held on 5–6 November 2015 at the Ange Hill Hotel, East Legon, Accra. The National Technical Coordination Committee (NTCC) organized the meeting in collaboration with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). In attendance were all five Ghana grantees, their partners and the respective micro‑, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs). The NTCC members were also present, along with representatives of UNEP, UNDP and the United Nations Office for Project Services. The meeting, which was chaired by Mr. Lambert Fabeelon, Director of Standards, Compliance and Enforcement for the Ghana Environmental Protection Agency, focused on the roles of the different grantees and their partners, the relevant United Nations agencies, the NTCC and the MSMEs as final beneficiaries. Some of the concerns discussed were:

  • Synergy and coordination between grantees, between MSMEs (e.g. gari and pito brewers and sawdust and wood waste MSMEs) and between grantees/MSMEs and technical institutions;
  • Technology-sharing between MSMEs and technical institutions, with support from the national technical coordination committee;
  • Marketing and packaging assistance for MSMEs;
  • Support for the promotion of centralized recovery of e-waste and biogas in the communities where the MSMEs or grantees work;
  • The ability of grantees and MSMEs to access the mailing lists of all NTCC members for support under the policy support component, as well as in greening the businesses;
  • Provision to all involved of a map of all the MSMEs and where they are located in the country;
  • The possibility of including the MSMEs in the regular quarterly review meeting of the grantees with UNDP;
  • Featuring best practices on the grantee websites and on the SWITCH Africa Green networking facility to enhance project visibility.
