UN-REDD Programme welcomes five new countries

Argentina, Cambodia, Ecuador, Nepal and Sri Lanka join the UN-REDD Programme, Denmark becomes a new donor and Panama gets approval of its UN-REDD national programme Nairobi, 02 November 2009 - The UN-REDD Programme's third Policy Board welcomed five new countries. Argentina, Cambodia, Ecuador, Nepal and Sri Lanka are the first to officially request to participate in the UN-REDD Programme, in addition to the initial b nine member countries. Nearly 20 countries have expressed interest and more are expected to join.

Olympic Champion Usain Bolt Lends Support to Sustainable Tourism Initiative

Nairobi, 30 October 2009 - Olympic champion sprinter Usain Bolt took a break from the track on Friday to launch the Zeitz Foundation's Long Run Initiative, which aims to create and support ecotourism projects around the world. The Long Run Initiative's pilot project in Kenya is a 50-acre solar and wind-powered conservancy in the Rift Valley region with a negligible carbon footprint. "Although I am known for running short distances, I want to inspire others to join me in the long run.
