Methane is a powerful greenhouse gas, contributing at least a quarter of today’s global warming.

While the world must rapidly shift away from burning fossil fuels, tackling methane emissions from the energy sector is essential to combat near-term global warming. During the UNFCCC COP26, Parties launched the Global Methane Pledge, under which signatories agreed to take voluntary actions to collectively reduce global anthropogenic methane emissions at least 30% from 2020 levels by 2030 (CCAC, 2021).
