The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Global Partnership on Nutrient Management (GPNM) in collaboration with its partners, is organizing this webinar to highlight key challenges, responses and collaboration of sargassum in the context of the Caribbean and West-Africa, as well as highlight efforts of the Joint Group of Experts on the Scientific Aspects of Marine Environmental Protection (GESAMP) Working Group on Sargassum, and build on outcomes of the recent Sargassum International Conference (Guadeloupe, October 2019).

Since 2016, the UN Environment Programme Caribbean Sub-Regional Office, located in Kingston Jamaica has sought to improve its relevance in the Caribbean, bring the services of the global UN Environment Programme closer to the Caribbean and assist countries to achieve environmental sustainability as a part of the global 2030 Agenda.
The Secretariat of the Basel Convention will be hosting a webinar as a follow up on the first meeting of its Plastic Waste Partnership Working Group that was held from 2nd to 5th March 2020 in Seychelles. As a member of this Working Group, the Cartagena Convention Secretariat was represented at this meeting which successfully concluded with agreements on several items, notably the establishment of project groups and consensus on activities that will be implemented by each project group.
The webinar will be held on the following dates:
OBJECTIVE: To orient new and existing users on how to access, use and update the Caribbean Marine Protected Area Management (CaMPAM) geospatial database.
TARGET AUDIENCES: Managers of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in the Caribbean region, marine spatial planners, researchers and the members of the MPA community in general.
An introduction to the main obstacles for efficient and sustainable growth presented by biofouling in the marine aquaculture industry. The webinar will highlight the key impacts, and the different antifouling methods in use for the prevention and control of biofouling on finfish, seaweed and shellfish aquaculture.

The purpose of the GEF IWEco 3rd Regional Project Steering Committee Meeting is to:-
Provide a refresher on the objectives of the GEF IWEco Project and expected outcomes (based on Results Framework);
Present financial status of the project, expenditures so far, and budget for the next year;
Provide an update on the status of the project activities (Partners and Participating Countries to present);
Present and discuss the Work Plan for 2019, communication and monitoring mechanisms;

The Eighth Meeting of the Scientific and Technical Advisory Committee (STAC) to the Protocol Concerning Specially Protected Areas and Wildlife (SPAW) in the Wider Caribbean Region will be held in Panama on 5 -7 December, 2018. This meeting proposes to review the achievements of the SPAW sub-programme during 2017- 2018 and to develop the workplan of SPAW for the 2019-2020 biennium.
The Caribbean Natural Resources Institute (CANARI) is collaborating with UN Environment, through the Caribbean Regional Coordinating Unit (CAR/RCU), to develop a Regional Strategy and Action Plan for the Valuation, Protection and Restoration of Key Marine Habitats in the CLME+. As part of this initiative, a report on the State of Marine Ecosystems and shared Living Marine Resource in the Wider Caribbean and (CLME+ and Gulf of Mexico) is being prepared to set the context and establish a baseline for the regional strategy and action plan.
The 71st annual conference of the Gulf and Caribbean Fisheries Institute (GCFI) will be held in San Andres, Colombia from 5–9 November 2018. The meeting is being hosted by the Corporation for the Sustainable Development of the Archipelago of San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina.
